The New York Giants (5-10) need a lot of help to qualify for the playoffs but the team has a chance. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys (6-9) need this win to potentially qualify themselves. The NFC East is going to be wild one Sunday with Giants vs Cowboys right in the middle of all the action.
Giants vs Cowboys Game Analysis
Both teams have underperformed, which is why at least one team in the playoffs will own a losing record. The question is will the team have a 7-9 or 6-10 record?
Giants can make the playoffs
The team has a chance to make the playoffs. Here are the scenarios:
- Washington Football team clinches the division with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles
- Giants vs Cowboys
- Dallas Cowboys clinch the division with a win over the Giants and a Washington Football Team loss to the Eagles
- NY Giants clinch the division with a win over the Cowboys and a Washington Football Team loss to the Eagles.
Nearly won the first time
The first time around the Cowboys pulled out a 37-34 victory despite losing quarterback Dak Prescott for the game, but ultimately the season as well. For the Giants, quarterback Daniel Jones completed 20-of-33 passes for 222 yards with zero touchdowns or interceptions. Devonta Freeman had 60 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Graham Gano connected on all four field-goal attempts, including a 55-yard strike.
Stop the run
If the Giants want to stay in the game, the defense has to stop the run. Last time, Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 91 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns. The Cowboys’ offensive line has been decimated by injuries, but are blocking a lot better for both Zeke and Tony Pollard. Last week, the team gave up 249 yards on the ground to the Ravens. That can’t happen again.
Giants vs Cowboys Predictions
Take a look at the top predictions for the Week 17 finale between Giants vs Cowboys.
Cowboys win but fail to make playoffs
It might have taken until December but the Dallas offense is firing on all cylinders. The team is coming off a 30-7 win over the Bengals, a 41-33 win over the 49ers, and a 37-17 win over the Eagles. The Cowboys are going to score over 30 points for the fourth straight game and win the game 35-14. However, Washington will clinch the division with a win on Sunday Night Football.
Ezekiel Elliott rushes over 100 yards in Giants vs Cowboys
After watching Tony Pollard rush for two touchdowns against the 49ers, Zeke came back to the party in a big way against the Eagles. Elliott rushed for 105 yards, which was the first time he rushed over 100 yards this season. Elliott needs 63 yards to go over 1,000 yards for the season, so there is no way that he doesn’t accomplish that here.
Daniel Jones fumbles at least once
Jones has fumbled the ball 10 times this season, which is just one away from Derek Carr’s 11 that lead the NFL. The Giants need Jones to play big, but he has not proved he can do that. With that said, Jones will tie for the lead in fumbles this season, or worse, fumble twice and lead the league. With the way the Cowboys defense has been playing, it’s possible that could happen.
